How to best promote your music on Spotify and why it matters

Spotify…..it’s a beast and things were perhaps more simple before digital platforms took over with their streaming services. Alas, there is no doubting the power of Spotify and similar platforms to get your music heard by global audiences that would otherwise not have the chance to find or fall in love with your music. It matters to have an up-to-date presence on Spotify, for your credibility as an artist and also to generate much deserved income that can go towards your next recording project.

However, just distributing your music to platforms like Spotify is not enough, and Spotify is not the only option of course, don’t forget to nurture alternatives like Tidal, YouTube, Soundcloud and Bandcamp. For discovery look to platforms like YouTube and TikTok. Once your music is on Spotify, you have to work hard to ensure that you promote it on your social channels, place ads if your budget allows and submit to both Spotify editorial playlists and other reputable playlist services (be careful with dodgy providers!). There are now reportedly 120,000 songs uploaded to Spotify and other DSPs every day…yes… every, single day! It’s important to make sure that you have a defined look/brand, compelling story and targeted, quality music product to ensure you get heard, let alone noticed by the industry, if you’re looking for positive reviews (more about that in a future post). Get in touch with us (email: contact@audiofunk.com.au) to find out more and to put a promotional plan together for your next release.
